Hi all...
I m using oracle 9.2 ,One DB is already presnt in the svr which was created using DBCA.Now I am trying to create one more DB manually in the same machine.
I successfully created new service using ORADIM.
I changed sid to new sid and when i try to connect as sys following errors occurs....
1.without giving sid
SYS>connect sys as sysdba
Enter password:
ERROR:
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
2.With giving sid

SYS>connect sys@newdb as sysdba
Enter password:
ERROR:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect
descriptor

My login is included in OS ORA_DBA group also...

I m able to connect as sys to the old database and start/shutdown it...

can any one help me out to solve d above prob..

ORA-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect descriptor

pls check ur tnsnames.ora ans lisnter.ora, i am sure the entries for ur second instance is not proper there

HI...


I checked STATUS of my listner it shows as 'READY' for my old db
but der is no entry for my new db.
How will add my new db dtls to listner..

I manually added to listner.ora but it didn't help...

where does it show READY status for listner???

as u said ur old database listner is fine then u copy the portion of that instance and make changes at appropriate places with ur new instance name.
