Hi all,
I need some help please in setting up ASM disk groups within dbca.

I have created disk groups from the linux command prompt

/etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk disk_name /device_name

when you listdisks all disk are seen. I then run 'dbca' and click on the option to Configure ASM. I then click on create new. all the disks I created from linux appear however they are prefixed by ORCL: which is incorrect. How do I get ride of ORCL:

When I installed oracle I chose not to create a database so how does the ASM configuration add ORCL: to the disks.

regards

ALan.

That is normal. The "ORCL:" indicated that the volumes are managed by ASMLib.

Set your asm_diskstring to something like 'ORCL:*'.

Hi frank,
thanks for the response.
however, when I run dbca and try and create a database I have to add the ASM disks. on the ASM configuration screen I click on create disks which then brings up another screen with a list of all my disks such as ORCL:DG_PROD_DB etc etc, I select all the disks and click ok and am told that I canot have odd characters in my disk name such as ':'. I cannot however edit the name to take out the':'

regards

Alan.

Sounds like a bug to me. Can you create the DISKGROUP manually?

CREATE DISKGROUP dgroup1 EXTERNAL REDUNDANCY DISK 'ORCL:VOL1';
