UNINSTALLING 10G [message #240723]

My Systems Admin has recently installed 10g version utilizing a zip file however ORACLE_HOME wasn't defined in a way that I would like $ORACLE_HOME= /oracle/10g and I would rather have it as /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0 so I have suggested he uninstall the software and reinstall it using my path. Can anyone work me through the process i.e uninstalling from zip file. Installing from a CD would have been easier. Any help will be highly appreciated...

rerun oracle universal installer and select deinstall.

Go where you unzip that file and there would be file like Installer run that again and then choose uninstall.

I don't understand you have to unzip the file to be able to install.
Why can't you use OUI to uninstall? You have it below the ORACLE_HOME directory whichever is currently its name.

On systems where the "inventory directory" does not reside in/under the ORACLE_HOME & you simply zip up ORACLE_HOME & move it to another system, OUI won't "find" any installation to uninstall.
The downside to this shortcut "installtion process" is that you can NEVER upgrade, becuase once again OUI can't find the base version installation tree. BTDT

Okay, while running uninstaller I run into this error message

OUI depends upon X-Windows being operational.
OUI wants/expect/demands to be able to open an X-Windows display on your local PC.
When it can't do so, it throws error & stops.
when you can invoke xclock on the DB server system & see the clock on your local PC, the OUI will work.

as a user root run dis command

DISPLAY=urip:0.0

and then user oracle run this

export DISPLAY=ip:0.0

What's wrong with just doing:

cd /oracle/10g
rm -r *

When you next install, you'll need an Xserver running on your PC to be able to run the installer in addition to setting the varaibles mentioned by others.
